A few weeks ago my sister ran in the Wharf to Wharf 7k race from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to Capitola. So, like a good family, we went to support her. And to get away from the hot valley and see some ocean. Maybe get some sand between our toes. And when I say family I mean Mom and Dad, Kaitlin met us there, Chris stayed home, Coleman came to support his honey, and Riley joined the fun too. And since Paige had to be at the Boardwalk before the race started at 8:30am we had to leave early. Like 5:30am early. If you know me, that is an ungodly hour that should not be met on a weekend, or on a week day for that matter!
There were lots and lots of people there. I think I heard something like 15,000 ran in the race. Crazy! As you can see in these pictures there are tons of people. There are still people running down the hill to the finish line in the top picture, and people leaving up the hill in the bottom.
As we waited…
Paige did it! A 7k in about an hour and 15 minutes with a view of the ocean the whole way.
We picked up some cheese, salami, and crackers and headed to the beach. Dad was in heaven because there was quite a bit of sailing going on.
Oh, I forgot about the goldfish. I love fishes ’cause they’re so delicious…! And I made s’mores brownies, just for Kaitlin. Meaning that we ate them and she got to take the left overs back with her. (see the dude with her, that’s her new beau. he’s nice. and from the neighboring town. she’ met him at camp. he works on the flats (aka the conference center) and she works up at camp)
Riley was still in her “drunk” phase of adjusting her seizure meds, so there was a lot of stumbling in the sand. Hence the sandy nose. She was sure worn out though, slept the whole way home…on my lap.
Don’t worry, we did stop at Gayle’s Bakery. I got my favorite Napoleon…so good!
It was a great day. Just what the doctor ordered. Got away from the heat. Saw my baby sis and met CJ. Sunk my toes in some sand. Riley got splashed by a wave. Enjoyed the company of those I love.
