DISNEYLAND!!! One thing you should know about me, is that I love Disneyland. I just don’t go very often. When Kaitlin and I saw that Disneyland was having the Tinkerbell run in January, we decided to sign up for it. “It” being the 10k. Please note that we signed up for the race in like July or August of 2013 thinking that we had plenty of time to train…. Haha!
So to Disneyland we went in mid-January. I hadn’t been in close to 7 years, so it was definitely a blast for me! We (Kaitlin, Stephen, Kevin, Audra, and myself) left on a Thursday after work and got to the hotel around11:30 or so. And after a good night’s sleep, we were up and at it the next morning, ready to high-tail it to the parks! To Disney California Adventures first! Kevin and Audra haven’t been to DL in so long that last time each of them were there, DCA park was still a parking lot. #fail So this was a whole new adventure for them.
(I’m going to put captions under the photos instead of explaining each, let’s see how this works format-wise.)
Waiting for the “Bug’s Life” show
I hadn’t been to Cars Land yet. And it.was.AWESOME! We rode Radiator Springs Racers (or whatever it’s called). Tip: Go in the single rider line! You may or may not be in the same car as the rest of your group, but when fast passes were out and the normal line was 120+ minutes long the 25 minute single rider line was a godsend.

After some walking around DCA, Kaitlin and I split off from the group so we could go get our running packets from the Expo. While we were there we looked around and got a few “running essentials”, like a silver sparkly non-slip headband from Sweatybands (which I actually just got a few more of because they’re awesome). We then took the monorail back into the park and met up with everyone in Tomorrowland. Kait and I were starving so we had a quick bite to eat, then onward! We rode It’s A Small World (which I secretly love!)…
All together now, “it’s a small world after all…”
Still decorated for Christmas inside. Lion King (and Timon) are my favorite!!!
And we went on the Jungle Cruise. Our tour guide was awesome, and hilarious!
Then, I’m gonna be honest, I don’t remember what happened. We rode some rides. I’m sure of that. But then the parade was gonna happen, and my favorite little girls were going to be there (their mommy was running the 1/2 marathon). So, duh, we went to watch the parade too!
Main Street with lights
Oh yeah! We got hats! Kaitlin and Stephen already had theirs from a previous trip, but Kevin, Audra, and I needed to join the party!
So many styles to choose from!
Oh get ready for it! Timid and nervous at first, but LOVED IT!
Sassy pants Layne and Carson were ready for the show!
Harper wasn’t so thrilled. She’s not a pomp and circumstance kinda gal, she likes it nice and quiet. Which a Disney parade is not…
Someone got a little special attention to get her out of the stroller.
man Mouse of the hour!
After the parade we went to have dinner, then went on Pirates with the girls and their entourage. Carson LOVES Pirates of the Caribbean! We pretty much called it a night shortly after that. Kaitlin and I needed to be up and ready to go in our corral before 6am.
Which means that we were up by 4:30 am (AM people!) where we parked, walked about a mile to the race start, then ran (and I use the term loosely for me) the Tinkerbell 10K. 10K, that’s double a 5K and just shy of 1/2 a 1/2 marathon. That’s 6.2 miles! Remember that “we’ve got plenty of time to train” comment? Well, the holidays happened, therefore, training did not. So we ran intervals. Until mile 5 where I was done, so Kait broke off and went ahead while I walked til I could see the finish line. And I’m ok with that. I finished. And I’ve got a lovely metal to prove it! Let me tell you though, if you can, sign up for a Disney run. They are well organized and so fun to run through the parks and to see all the costumes that people were wearing. So instead of walking the mile back to the car, we walked the less than a mile to the hotel. Shower, clean up, and get ready for the day. What I really wanted was a XL quad shot coffee drink by IV and a nap. Oh, and a foot rub. And of course, unbeknownst to Kait and I, we led everyone back the long way to the park. So we really walked/ran closer to 9 miles by 10am.
Now for the fun story part… We spent the morning in DCA again. I was more than willing to sit and watch the hour long Aladdin show = sitting! During the morning and well into the afternoon Kaitlin started getting video texts from people near and dear to her: all the kids she nanny’s for, friends, family, etc. At first she was like, odd but that’s sweet.
Kevin, Audra, and I broke off away from Stephen and Kaitlin for a bit. We knew we had dinner reservations so we had a meet-up time for later, but we all just split up. We rode Soarin’ Over California, while Kait and Stephen wandered and took a leisurely ride around Disneyland on the train.
At a given, unknown to Kaitlin time, we headed over to DL to meet up with Stephen’s friend as well as the girls. As you can see below, there were special (twin’s) birthday treats at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique!
Look at the princess hair!
Watching the flag come down
And it was go time! Soon the train would be coming back to the Main Street station, where the couple was going to sit down at a bench. My job, hide with my camera. Stephen’s friend’s job, hide with a camera for video. Video wasn’t working, so Rylen’s job was hide with my phone on video mode. Crisis diverted!
Hallelujah for reverse cameras! And MorMor was having a hard time keeping order, but we had an important job to do!
Stephen’s job, play videos sent to him from our parents for Kaitlin. As well as give some lovey, dovey speech.
I’m hiding behind a tree.
His job also was to get down on one knee.
Kaitlin’s job, to say yes! Which of course she did!
They didn’t even notice that we moved up to the deck! Surprise! How did they find out that we were right behind them? When Rylen hollered, “They just got engaged!!!” Then there was a little applause. It was awesome!
Guess who’s gettin’ married!?!
Rylen got a picture (on my phone) of me congratulating and giving my sister a hug (if you follow me on instagram you saw it). Then congrats from Daniel, and of course the girls.
Hugs and pictures with the flower girls.
Time to make some phone calls! And see that metal around Kait’s neck, that’s what we got for crossing the finish line!
Another couple getting ready for their happily ever after at the happiest place on earth!
Duh! Bride and Groom ears were in order! And, they were given a voucher to get them as a gift!
Can’t forget about the others in our party. They were there for it too. 🙂
As a celebratory dinner, Kaitlin (unbeknownst to her) had made reservations at the Wine Trattoria restaurant in DCA. I would definitely recommend it!
After dinner Kait, Stephen, and I headed back to the hotel. Hello tired feet and having been up since before the sun butt crack of dawn. Kevin and Audra stayed and played a bit longer.
The next morning we checked out, and hung out Downtown Disney for a late breakfast and a little shopping before loading up and heading home.
